Menu Plan Monday - week of 8/10/09

The Pepperoncini Beef Roast from last week's menu plan was our favorite meal of the week!

Part of the reason that I *love* menu planning is because it is so versatile.  I had several situations arise last week and I was able to move my meals around to best fit our needs at the time.  The only meal that we had on the originally planned night was Monday's!!

So, what's for dinner this week?

Mon - Tasty Tuna Tacos (going out on a limb with this one!), homemade pico

Tues - Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin, cubed sweet potatoes

Weds - Home Group Bible Study in Teague

Thurs - Meaty Mexican Pizza (using left over pork from Tues), corn-on-the-cob

Fri - Link Sausage, Mom's Squash Casserole

Sat - Left overs

Sun - Simple Supper Sunday

Shopping Trip

I tried to plan my menu by using items that were on sale at the grocery store this week (as best as I could, I'm still learning the ropes on all this stuff) and incorporating items that I already had in my fridge/cabinet. Below is a quick rundown on items that I purchased to feed us this week and I did go ahead and include the fruits/milk/yogurt because I have a few breakfast smoothies planned for us to try as well.

Brookshire Bros - Total $13.11

Boneless Pork Loin - $7.18 (on sale for $1.88/lb)
Hy-Top Shredded cheese x2 - $3.34
Tortillas - $.98
Green Grapes - $1.61 (on sale for $.99/lb)

HEB - Total $8.10

Organic Milk x2 - $5.98
Green Onions - $.69
Peaches - $1.05 (on sale for .88/lb)
Cilantro - $.38
Cantaloupe - $.97 (I just realized the cashier didn't charge me for this)

Wal-Mart - Total $16.03

Tuna - $3
Olives - $1
Taco Shells - $1
Corn x3- $.99
Sausage - $2.50
Organic Yogurt - $3
Strawberries - $2
Apples - $1.39 (on sale for $1/lb)
Bananas - $1.03 (on sale for $.48/lb)
Jalapenos - $.12 (on sale for $1/lb)

Grand Total:  $37.24

Considering that I have a family of three, I will naturally spend less at the grocery store than those of you with larger families.  However, the lesson remains the same...menu planning is not only a time saver, but can be a money saving strategy!!
